I started off my first international trip of 2019 by visiting the Heidelberg Marriott Hotel in Heidelberg, Germany. This is my second stay at this property and was hopping for some updates, however it is the same as it was last year.
Arriving at the hotel is easy via Train or Car. If you take the train, the hotel is only about a 5-10 minute walk from the train-station. If you drive, there is an onsite parking garage under the hotel. For this trip, I drove from the Airport. When I arrived at the hotel, I checked in at the front desk. The agent had to make a phone call durring my check in, I was assuming this was about my Marriott Bonvoy Titanium status, and that she was trying to secure me an upgrade. She said she has a good room for me and sent me on my way. The agent at the front desk also did not tell me anything about the lounge or elite benefits at the hotel. The only question I was asked is if I wanted the $10 FB credit or the bonus points. I opted for the bonus points since the FB credit was only one and not per a day.
Arriving at my room, It was a normal king room. The room featured a king bed, very small TV, small fridge that was full of mini bar items, and a few gold lamps. The room’s air conditioner did not seam to work, but as I talked to other people at the hotel, we assumed that they have not turned them on yet for the season. This hotel, however, actually has windows that open. Granted they do not open very much, but just enough to get air flow. I will tell you that if your room faces the street, you will want to keep it shut as there is a lot of street noise. If your room faces the water, you will enjoy the breeze off the water into your room at night. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were very flat. I had to use 3 pillows to get comfortable.
The Bathroom was decent, but could have been updated. The sink had small fracture cracks in it and the bathtub had a good step up into it. I will say that this hotel is excellent for Water Pressure and Temperature. The pressure is so strong that you will have to turn it down in order to use the taps.
The room also featured a mini bar that had a small selection of items that were not terribly over priced like most hotels.
Onsite there is a restaurant and a bar. The restaurant advertises itself as the “best steaks in town”. So I ordered a steak and it was very good. Probably one of the best steaks I have ever had at a hotel restaurant.
The Bar at the hotel is a very cool experience. It is themed to look like an old pub with wood everywhere. The bartenders were extremely helpful in not only drink selection, but also things to do in the area. She even helped me translate a web page on my phone to book dinner reservations in a near by restaurant.
This hotel also features an onsite parking garage that is under the hotel. The pricing is reasonable for the stay but I will warn you the spots are very small to park in. When arriving at the hotel, Enter the parking garage and head upstairs to the lobby. Tell them you are parking a car and they will give you a parking ticket that works in and out for your entire stay. You will just throw away the ticket the machine give you when you first pulled in.
